New Minnesota Exhibit Showcases Tours During World War I

5 Apr

Minneapolis’s sister city relationship with Tours will be taking center stage in downtown Minneapolis from April 3 – May 30 as a new exhibit Les Américains à Tours 1917-1919 will pay tribute to the Americans stationed in Tours during World War I. At the Hennepin Gallery (lower level exhibit space in the Hennepin County Government Center), visitors will be able to learn about how our sister city became a United States supply base during the epic conflict once known as “The Great War.” This exhibit, created by the city of Tours to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I, was first displayed last year in France when Minnesota was selected to be the featured guest at the Foire de Tours. It has been translated into English for its North American debut this spring! For more information, please visit the Hennepin County website.

Tours City Hall captures the spirit of the season

In 2017, we celebrated the biggest event in our 26 year history! An extensive exhibit showcasing Minnesota was successfully staged at the Foire de Tours in Tours, France, an event similar to our state fair. In 2018, we hope to build on the success of this immense project and invite you to join us in the many interesting and fun projects we are planning for the new year.

A highlight will include commemorating the 100th anniversary of the World War I armistice with our friends from across the ocean. Enter your email address in the box on the right or like us on Facebook to receive updates on upcoming events such as an exhibit at the Weisman Art Museum featuring World War I era posters that were displayed in Tours in 2017.

Our friends in Tours also started their own citizens group in 2017. Please visit their website or like them on Facebook to learn more about their plans for 2018! (Nos amis de Tours ont également créé leur propre groupe de citoyens en 2017. S’il vous plaît visitez leur site Web ou les aimer sur Facebook pour en savoir plus sur leurs plans pour 2018!)

Bonne Année!

Support Minneapolis and Tours Sister Cities on Give to the Max Day!

22 Sep

Help us strengthen ties between Minnesotans and others around the world!

For more than a quarter century, we have reached across the ocean to engage young and old alike to reinforce the bonds of friendship with Minnesotans and residents of this French city located an hour southwest of Paris.

In May, we celebrated the biggest event in our 26 year history! An extensive exhibit showcasing Minnesota was successfully staged at the Foire de Tours in Tours, France, an event similar to our state fair. A delegation of nearly 100 from the North Star state engaged with approximately 300,000 attendees to share highlights of our history and cultural heritage. We also celebrated the “Year of America” in Tours, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1917 United States establishment of a pilot training facility in Tours during World War I, and were honored to attend the opening of a poster exhibit at the Chateau de Tours featuring nearly 50 World War I posters on loan from the Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis.

Our work is not done as we hope to build on the success of this immense project by continuing to work on strengthening the values that bind us together with others across the world. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run entirely by volunteers, we rely solely on the donations of individuals like you to help fulfill our mission. Please visit our page on Give.mn and consider a donation on Give to the Max Day – Thursday, November 16.

All contributions are 100% tax deductible. Thank you to all of our donors for your ongoing support!
