10 Artists to Perform at the 20th Anniversary Celebration

Join us for a special evening of food, wine and conversation with the people of Tours, France who are visiting this week as part of an official delegation.

Local jazz vocalist Christine Rosholt will perform throughout the evening.  See performance artists Mad King Thomas  and The Body Cartography ProjectSean Smuda, Artist Liaison to Tours, is curating an exhibit to open during the Soirée, which will preview a show scheduled for the Chateau de Tours in 2012.  Artists on exhibit include:

·      John Schuerman
·      Sean Smuda
·      Broken Crow

These artists will donate a portion of art sales to benefit the Minneapolis and Tours Sister Cities.  And you’ll certainly want to take in the local specialties and unique experiences available in our silent auction.  Hennes Art Company is also donating some of its art to the silent auction. 

We’re honoring the special friendships and unique collaborations between our two cities!

Special Guests Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak, Council President Barbara Johnson, Council Vice President Robert Lilligren will welcome two deputy mayors from Tours, Colette Girard and Alain Goudeau, and the international relations manager, Marie-Bernard Amirault-Deiss.  Other city council members, city officials, as well as people from throughout the Twin Cities’ French American community will attend the event.

A post Soirée party will be held at Nick and Eddie Restaurant.  French recording artist Desdamona will perform at 9pm followed by Saltee.  $5 at the door.

The event is co-sponsored by MeetMinneapolis, Alliance Française Minneapolis/St. Paul, the French American Chamber of Commerce, Café Barbette and Hennes Art Company.

Background  During the week of September 10th, officials from the city of Tours will be visiting the Twin Cities for a series of business and cultural meetings.  Minneapolis and Tours Sister Cities has been working collaboratively with the City of Minneapolis, MeetMinneapolis, the Minnesota Trade Office and the French American Chamber of Commerce to schedule meetings with a diverse range of organizations.  Economic development opportunities will include medical technology, high technology, sustainability, tourism, and bike-related business. Emphasis will be on cultural and educational activities, including student exchanges and internships, artist exchanges and artist-in-residence programs as well as historical connections between France and Minnesota.  For more information about the delegation’s activities, contact Beth Parkhill, President, French American Chamber of Commerce at beth.parkhill@faccmn.com.
